Was reading the MLUG discussion list, and saw some discussion on Voice over IP. Essentially, it’s telephone service using a broadband connection. For those who have long distance, and pay a lot of money for long distance fees, this is a hell of a service. For home users, it’s $20 a month, UNLIMITED long distance. SO, no per minute fees to any place in the US or canada. Considering centurytel is charging 20 just for local service right now, I’m very very seriously considering this. If I do switch to this, I’ll let ya’ll know how it goes
Poetshome.com seems to be running ok on wordpress. I had some quirks initially with getting my default style to load – you can actually load other styles if you’d prefer. On the bottom right is a link to the other “styles” that are available. I’ve got more work to do on things like coding some changes for the categories, as well as other layout and interface design changes to get it closer to what I’d like. But, it seems to be pretty well all online.
By the way, if you’d like to look at the old site, it’s still online. There’s of course going to be no updates to it at this point, as I’ve got wordpress and other stuff in use. Although, there is a part of me that’s tempted to play with it and get it to work with WordPress database tables. Hmmm…. Maybe later if I’m bored (NOT likely right now).
Anyways, a few quick notes – go through, see if you can find any errors. I think I’ve got it mostly taken care of, but if you can find something, let me know. I’m also open to any suggestions or comments – please post below. There’s one I’d like to implement, but it requires modifying wordpress, and I haven’t had the time to figure out what I’ll need to do. That change is to get the categories links up to the top. WordPress does some things really nicely, but it also obfuscates some things very poorly. I’ll write more on that later with regards to how I’d like some things to work. But, enough of that – test the site, see and say what you think, and we’ll see how things go Thanks all!
UPDATE: Ok, quick note – I’m also open to any plugin suggestions people have. i.e. is there any interface requests that you’d like? I’ve already got a subscribe-to-comments option enabled which emails you on a new comment, but if anyone has other requests, let me know.
You are an SEDF –Sober Emotional Destructive Follower. This makes you an evil genius. You are extremely focused and difficult to distract from your tasks. With luck, you have learned to channel your energies into improving your intellect, rather than destroying the weak and unsuspecting.
Your friends may find you remote and a hard nut to crack. Few of your peers know you very well–even those you have known a long time–because you have expert control of the face you put forth to the world. You prefer to observe, calculate, discern and decide. Your decisions are final, and your desire to be right is impenetrable.
You are not to be messed with. You may explode.
Yes, it’s that time. My yearly move to a new place tradition. This time, I’m moving in with a friend – James Austgen into fireside apartments. They’re pretty nice, with access to a swimming pool, decently large space, etc. It’s not as nice as my old place, but it’ll work, and it’s a bit cheaper. SO, anyone interested in either stopping by to check the place out, let me know. This should be a fun year.
Last, if anyone is willing to help clean/pack my old place – please PLEASE get ahold of me, ASAP (in other words, right now) – I’ve got an email form on my about page, and numerous other methods of contacting me. If nothing else, leave a comment and I’ll contact you.
Doom 3 finally hit gold master. WOW. The (spoiler warning) reviews right now on it are saying it’s PHENOMINAL. *sigh* This also means I’ll probably need to upgrade my video card… Oh well, sounds like it’ll be worth it *ponder* Just hope the rest of my computer can handle it… although right now, I have some doubts…Anyone want to buy a used Athlon multiprocessor system?
Ok, this is just sad. I mean, really really sad. Check on image number 11 – that’s where the … humor? can be found. I can’t believe this was on the “Sports Page” over on msnbc.com. Kudo’s to James for the link.
Scientists selected based upon their politics. This bothers me in the EXTREME. *sigh* November, the sooner you come the sooner hopefully we can get rid of this stupid shit.
